So if you have found this post then you have probably heard of Microsoft Information Protection. this is the spiritual successor to Azure Information Protection (AIP) which was V2 of Active Directory Rights Management Services (ADRMS).
Currently, Microsoft is transitioning customers from AIP to Unified Labeling and instructions to do this can be found here.
In assisting companies with the transition there are a few things to know.
- MIP is not something a customer can purchase
- MIP will be baked into the Office clients themselves
- This means Web
- Yes even Windows
- MIP is not yet available and should be released by the end of the calendar year 2019
So what can you do today?
Funny you should ask if you are already running AIP labels I suggest moving to Unified Labels. This feature will light up MIP as the products are released.
Please note that while in mixed mode (AIP and UL) that Ul updates need to be manually published (via the Azure Portal of course) back to AIP
If you are new to labelling start with Unified labelling (having said that you will still need a Log Analytics workspace and the AIP solution installed to gather the data
